XPS Funding Watch: Implications of the funding code for trustees and sponsors

A new strategy regime is set to bring about significant changes to the funding and investment plans of defined benefit schemes. All schemes will be required to target a status of low dependency on the sponsor by the time they are ‘significantly mature’ and set out a journey plan for how they intend to achieve this. The Pensions Regulator has recently published its interpretation of these new draft requirements.
The clock is already ticking for schemes and most will have materially less time to get to their end targets than previously expected. We explore what this is likely to mean in practice and what trustees and sponsors need to be doing now.
